Marine Sonic Technology, founded by Martin Wilcox and further established in 1993 following a merger with Applied Sonics Corporation, builds on decades of innovation in acoustic imaging and sonar design.

 

Mr. Wilcox, having over 20 years of experience in the medical ultrasound field and credited with major advancements in obstetric imaging, applied his expertise to underwater acoustics, including the development of the SHARPS (Sonic High-Accuracy Range and Positioning System), capable of delivering centimeter-level 3D positioning accuracy. His pioneering work in low-power, high-efficiency transducer design continues to drive Marine Sonic’s reputation for exceptional image quality and performance.

 

Acquired in 2014 by ATLAS North America LLC, a subsidiary of ATLAS ELEKTRONIK GmbH, and later integrated into ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) in 2017, Marine Sonic Technology now operates as a brand of TKMS ATLAS North America.

 

Today, the company remains committed to delivering high-resolution side scan sonar systems that empower first responders, military, and commercial operators with reliable, intuitive tools for critical underwater missions supported by continuous innovation, scalable technology, and long-term customer partnership.
